Found VCDgear, can't open it!

Ok, I found it using the search feature on xp. Now it says that windows can't open it and supplied a website that suggested a program called expand to open these types of "private"(?) files. I downloaded it and now I still can't get to the damn program. What is up? yes I did go to the vcdgear homepage with no results. Anybody?

Well, start a directory/folder in your main drive called Downloads, and download all things into there. This should be at the same 'level' as programs and windows, you know?

Go and download one of the vcdgear programs for your system and get the GUI version so you get an interface with your program, the others are not so easy. ->this may have been the problem as you need to get the Graphical User Interface (GUI) version! <-

Download it into your downloads folder, and I suggest at this point to create a folder within it to put the ZIP file VCDgear into.

You need a program to 'unzip it', and unzip it into the folder that it is in now. I don't know if you don't have one of these programs, so read the XP help file for 'zip'. You could download winrar from rarsoft, a great stable program that will handle it. ZIPs are just wrappers that keep the program inside stable until it is unzipped. Always have a virusscanning program running and never assume any zipped file or .exe file you get is free of virus or trojan.

once unzipped, the program will operate from the folder it is in. Later, when it runs and you are happy, open the folder that it is in and create a shortcut for the vcdgear application exe. Read creating shortcuts in the Windows help file if you need to.

I put my shortcut on the windows taskbar as I use vcdgear daily.

Is that what you needed to know? Later you can search for files of the same name to see where they went on your PC and move or delete them.

Finally, save the download zips for these things, if you need to give it to another or re-install it, or if a newer version sucks on your system you can use the older one.

is vcdgear any good?? thanks also i have alot of downloads that dont work at all what player will work for most of them?
