Anything Western Digital gets my nod of approval.
    Western Digital Drive
Others on this forum like Seagate, AcomData, or Lacie.

One thing I would mention, if you can afford it get
a Combo Ext. Drive, that has both USB2 and FW connectivity,
as it is much simpler if you have a video file on the drive that
you need to share with a PC using teacher/administrator
to do so with a Combo connectivity drive.

But if you ABOSLUTELY know you will always be using a Mac,
then stay with a FW connectivity drive.

As someone who uses many drives in demanding multi-track audio my first choice is Seagate Baracudas or Western Digital. At least 7200 rpm. You can always fine deals on these at Circuit City and Best Buy. Sometimes in the store they have deals that are not listed in the paper. Then find a good FW and Or USB housing to put them in (easy to do - 2 plugs and the right jumper setting, usually Master.)

  5. Got a 500GB Western Digital MyBook Premium. Very nice enclosure, quiet. With USB2 and Firewire connection. So far, i am really satisfied.
