I downloaded an AVI movie. When I tried to look at it in WMP. it played a black screen with NO audio. I downloaded k-lite codec pack. Then tried to play it again, It played the video, but the audio was way ahead of the video........me being a real dumb dumd to this didn't know why or what to do,......I tried to convert to Mpeg..........The mpeg plays the video with no audio.

What I am wanting to do is burn to dvd to watch in my home player. The reason I went to mpeg is because I have an mpeg to dvd converter/burner, and the program to convert avi to mpeg won't burn.

Any suggestions to straighten out my video/audio problems?

    Thanks,
    Brent

Codec packs are bad news. Try to play the file with VLC, if the audio is in sync then have a look at one of the many AVI to DVD guides featured on this website, or try this guide by Fulcilives that uses freeware tools https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=316333&highlight=

If the audio is still out of sync read the sticky at the top of this forum then read the AVI to DVD guides or Fulcilives guide.

Give the guide by Fulcilives a go, it won't cost you a penny to try

when I get to the part in AVI-Mux where you right click on the "Audio" file to save it, mine says it's an MPEG 1 and will not let me right click on it , when I clicked on it, it turned the filename in the top "Red"..........this is so confusing! haha.........I thought I could simply load it in like , WinAvi or something and convert it.......but am finding it doesn't work all that easy. When I did start it through winavi, it creates the audio and video folder but doesnt put anything in the audio folder,.......I didn't let it finish either cause I didn't wanna sit here several hours to find out it didn't include the audio.

WinAVI doesn't do much right but here it's actually correct - for a Video DVD, the AUDIO_TS folder is empty (and only present for compatibility reasons). It's only used for Audio DVD.
    You have basically 3 choices:
    1) If you must convert, use convertx2dvd.
    2) If that's not to your liking, start reading all guides here on the subject of AVI to DVD. Many hours of reading ahead of you.
    3) Get yourself a DivX/XviD capable player, and stop this conversion business altogether.

What tool did you use? WinAVI or convertx2dvd? What kind of problem do your player show?

I used VSO convertXtoDVD to convert from AVI to DVD and burn, my player is a cheap Emerson,DVD/VCR ... and says "Disc Error" " Please eject the disc, playback feature may not be available"

Now when put in my sons player,..which is a Ventura - E cyber home. It plays fine haha

Is there something set wrong or something? I have burned DVDs with Aurora mpeg to dvd converter and played fine in my player.

Which model Emerson, and how old is it? If it's a really old player, it may simply not like any homemade discs, at all. I have an early Toshiba player somewhere in the house that'll only accept commercial DVDs and audio CDs.

What media are you using? Your Emerson may be a little more picky about the media than the players your kids are using.

What is media? if it's the disc I am using they are, Sony DVD-R R47, 120 min/ 4.7 GB

It has me puzzled, cause same disc I have converted mpeg to dvd and burned with Aurora and played in my Emerson.......so I know it has played these disc in it before.

I'm a fan of ConvertXtoDVD but had some problems with it's burning engine. I now use Nero for the final burn. Do you have another app to burn the resultant VIDEO_TS folder?

If not you could try ImgBurn (free) and burn at a lower than rated speed and see how it goes.

You first need to 'Build', then use ImgBurn to burn the new ISO.

yes, from the same spindle. Heres the weird thing. I Burned another movie lastnight after converting with again ConvertXdvd and it plays in my emerson. The only thing different I did was to select NT(whatever) instead of PAL instead of it choosing. Thats really all I did different and it worked, LOL!!
I am doing another one now, so we will see.
