  1. I'm trying to burn with Nero 5.5.8 and keep getting invalid media. But when I go back to 5.5.72 it burns fine but the DVD won't play on stand alone DVD players. I have a panasonic/matshitu dvd-ram d310 and I am using dvd-r disks. Any idea?????

There are others seeing this problem. I wonder if the people at Nero are aware of the problem.

There is a problem (still) with the 5580 upgrade program. Uninstall NERO completely, and reinstall (using your serial number) usually fixes all problems with this version. (Do a search on NERO 5.5.8.0 installation if you want more details.)

I have already unistalled. Cleaned out the registry. Deleted all remnants of the application and reinstalled. The problem does not change. It still sees the media as unwritable.

Sounds like you did this manually, instead of using the INSTALL/UNINSTALL porgram option in Windows Control Panel. If so, then you probably didn't get everything and therefore may be out of luck. Try looking for a DVD-R.DLL file, or something like this and delete it, then reinstall again. I had a problem with 5580 until I did the uninstall/reinstall process, and 5572 worked okay for me, too.

I did use the Uninstall option under Win 2K and I have also tried a manual removal. I still have the same issue. I have searched for the file you noted but cannot find it. I am on my fourth attempt and still no results. I have also tried multiple DVD-R disks.

The burner does work and I have created a DVD with SpruceUp.

I am at a loss. I do appreciate the help but Nero still reports that the media is not writable. Any other ideas?

    Thanks for the assistance.
