i have a lite on dvd rw. model sohc 832s. the cover and instructions on this dvd rw says it can burn dual layer dvd's. i have had it about 12 months but have never tried to burn a dual layer until now. all i have burned is normal 4.7gb and it works great. but i have tried about 5 times now to burn a dual layer dvd and it wont do it. the disc spins and stops and spins and stops then the light comes on and goes out etc etc then after about 5 minutes of this it says burn fail.
i use nero7 and have tried 3 kinds of dual layer dvd.
i have checked on the lite on site and it says i defo have a dual layer burner. i have also updated the firmware and it still wont work.

But in my local well known computer store they wanted something like £24 for a pack of 5 dvd-dl top brand and I didn't fancy paying that so thats why I thought I would try the others. Also I'm still not sure if it's my dvd writer although I have checked and double-checked and Lite-on site says my model is definitely a dual layer burner. I got the Traxdata and Aone from a very well known and reputable online computer supplies store so I thought they would be ok. I will definitely try what you have suggected though. Its for any video or data that I try to put on dvd. I am trying to use them for the storage size. Thanks for your help.

ok, I have tried Imgburn with an Aone disk. The log said everything ok so I don't think the problem is there. I checked the disk with Lite-on smartburn and it reckons they are a Ricoh make. Anyway, i tried to burn dual layer and it did the same thing as always. Imgburn checked the disc and drive, says everything ok, files ok to burn, and tried to burn. the disc spins and stops, clicks, stops, spins, spins, clicks, stops, spins, stops etc. This went on for 9 minutes before I thought "nothings going to happen here" and took the disc out. This is what has happened everytime. I will have to get some Verbatim and try that. If that doesn't work then I know I've got a "dodgy" rw drive although as I said it's only about, what, 18 months old and this is the first time I have tried to burn dual-layer. I can't believe though that shops can sell all this media that probably won't work. I have used cheap and nasty media in the old days but at least I always got results even if the results were poor but for shops to sell cheaper media that is of no more use to most people than a coaster is scandalous. Anyway, thats my rant. I will get some verbatim. If that doesn't work I will buy myself another rw writer. Many thanks for your help.

I have yet to see a post from anyone who has successfully burnt Ricoh DL media.
I know own experience with them under various names including SONY has been awful.
The symptoms various people have seem to differ, mine fail halfway though the second layer, but these really suck. -
:S
says everything ok, files ok to burn, and tried to burn. the disc spins and stops, clicks, stops, spins, spins, clicks, stops, spins, stops etc.
I can't understand what the problem is
