Anyone with 52"+ DLP use an upconverting dvdplayer?

I have a mitsubishi 52" 1080p DLP(WD52627) tv. I was looking into getting an upconverting dvd player, and contacted OPPO about one of theirs, I got a response saying that with DLP tvs, there may need to be a significant calibiration for the dbd player to work properly (jaggies, blockiness).

My question is has anyone with a 52"+ DLP experience any of these problems or others?

All Hi-Def displays should be calibrated to the player. Nothing peculiar about the Oppo in that regard. At the very least run the TV through the THX Optimizer found on all the Star Wars DVDs, as well as on hundreds of others, after you get your new player. The macroblock enhance problem, for DLPs especially, can be a serious one without a proper calibration, if the player has a Faroudja chipset (Oppo).

If you're planning on getting an Oppo (highly recommended), I'd wait for the 1080p model due out shortly, the Oppo DV-981HD . The current models upconvert only to 1080i and 720p.

Ok, so all I would really need to do is use the THX optimizer (which I have already done for my current dvd player with the OPO (or whihc ever I buy) and it should work fine?

Yes, should work fine. You don't optimize the Oppo, though. The default settings are pretty much right on. You adjust the settings in the TV set. I may have misunderstood what you were saying.
