  1. Ok, unsure if this is where to post this:

I have an older Sony analog Hi8 Pro handycam. It has excellent depth of field control and beautiful color saturation, actually, in some ways looks better than my Canon xi minidv camera (more "movie like")!

I just bought a Toshiba D-R410 dvd recorder. I'v heard that it does a beautiful job of "up-scaling" older VHS video's when re-recording them and then playing them on HDTV.

Here's my thought, just for grins, can I take my Sony Hi8 Pro "OUT", (I can view as I record, in fact, I don't even use the tape in the camera, I go direct to disc), out put to HDMI (I know that the picture will not be "true 1080p but will still look better than Hi8) and record the HDMI signal output from the Toshiba either to my PC or another recorder?

If so, what other hardware/software is required, how do I record an HDMI signal in real time (as I film)?

My PC is a home built unit running a Dual core intel CPU @ 4.3ghz, 4 gig ddr3 ram and 2 x 500gig SATA hardrives and a 1gig dual head vid card out to 2, 24" flat screen LCD monitors.

Just a thought? Can it be done? stupid idea? I'm trying to keep the "film-look" with out having to invest in a newer dv camera and a DOF adapter.

This was discussed here : https://forum.videohelp.com/topic378355.html so it is possible. Is it better than a good software upscaler ? Undetermined. It is faster (real-time versus many hours).
