Hi,
I want to extract the .wav (audio) from the .avi (movie) ...
I want to do it cuz I think that TMPGEnc doesn't know how to do it right and when it converts the .avi to the .mpg file I get bad quality audio. So I was thinking of helping TMPGEnc by extracting it (audio) and choosing it for him afterwards ... what do you think?
P.S.
I tried extracting the .wav using VirtualDub 1.4.9 and the .wav file came out bad too![]()

We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
what movie file is it and did it sound bad in the avi file to begin with

It sounds like that the original sound was recorded at 48000khz. You need to convert the sound to 44000khz and vdub is the program to do it.

vcd4me, Its an .avi file and no, it doesn't sound bad in it to begin with.
Lextorite, can I test the .avi file to find out the frq. of the audio before I do what you said? How do I convert the audio once I find out that is the problem?
P.S. I opened the .avi file in VirtualDub and went to File->File Information
and found out that the audio is at 48000Hz ... but I just don't know how to convert it using VDub ... -
OK here's what happened I think you used virtual dub wrong there are three things you MUST CHANGE when you use v.dub. Changing from 48000hz to 44100hz is one of them. LEXTORITE IS RIGHT-If you didn't change it THEN IT MAY SOUND"BAD" (as you said) because your player doesn't play 48000hz. also if you don't know the other 2 things to do then read the first guide under convert. If you looked at the guide in the first place you would have known this. I don't mind helping people but when asked a direct question ANSWER IT
TWICE I asked you what movie it was and no answer. I'm not saying I'm a know it all but I download everyday and have converted a lot of movies. In case you didn't know some movies just have BAD SOUND to begin with.Usually any CAM movies and some TS movies. You are asking this in a NEWBIE FORUM, I don't know how much experience you have so I have to assume you are real new to this.especially seeing you didn't even read the guide, If you had we wouldn't be having this conversation would we. Try what I said in the beginig and you should have no problem
Good luck and let me know how you made out.

I don't know if saying the name of the movie is right to do around here, thus I didn't. I'll PM it to you now. The movie is DVDRiped and isn't a CAM nor a TS release. The sound on the original .avi file is perfect (and the video for that matter). I'm not all that new at this and have done conversions on many other files ...
Anyhow, I'm looking at the guide now and I'll let you know. -

Ok, I'm getting an error from VDub saying that the audio compression is not compatible with the input format .. It says that I need to check the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format ...

Hope you don't mind me hitching a ride on your topic!!
I'm having the exact same problem (and error message) trying to extract the wav from "Enemy At The Gate" avi
File information in VD tells me the audio has 5 channel stereo, sample rate of 48000 and an "unknown compression (tag 2000)". -
I'm afraid to ask you this because you've got me totally confused. It's a simple process using vdub. did you use the original avi. If you want to pm me that would be ok.
