I've used winavi to convert and dvd shrink to burn a widescreen movie to dvd. but when i play it on my 4:3 tv screen , the width cuts off from right and left. how do i make it fit the whole movie on the tv screen without getting sides cut off? it shows letterboxing on top and bottom which is fine.

maybe i should change the dvd player settings?

So many problems - where to start ?

I suspect you have two problems with the width of your movie.

The first is simple and common - it is called overscan, and it describes the region around the edge of your screen that is covered by the bezel of the television set. The image goes right to the edge, and so some of it is covered. You can fix this by putting a black border around your image to push it inwards.

The second is a known problem with WinAVI and some wide aspect ratios (especially 2.35:1) where WinAVI does in fact crop the image.

In order to fix your problem you have to dump WinAVI. This has two benefits. The first is that you can reclaim the disc space previously wasted by WinAVI, and the second is you wont be tempted to use it again.

To fix your overscan problem, and convert retaining the original aspect ratio, use FitCD to generate a short avisynth script, then use this with a good encoder to produce your video assets ready for authoring. If you search the forums for FitCD and Overscan you will find a number of posts that list the process in detail.

I think its in overscan problem not winavi, I don't see any image cropping when when watching on my computer screen.

But I don't want to use fitcd because it may take too long. what if I use Convertxtodvd but with tv screen option set to full screen? will this help?
