    how do you do it?

I read somewhere that you need a converter that links up to the computer through the IEEE1394 cable.

Can you do it, however through the RCA jacks? Plug the RCA jacks in the camera and hook it up to the tv. Insert the tape in the vcr, let it play and the press record on the digital camcorder.

    Would this work also?

If the RCA jacks are inputs, then the answer is yes. You could also hook the VCR directly to the camera through RCA inputs, then transfer to the PC through the cable.

If the RCA jacks are outputs (watch the tape in the camera on TV) then the asnwer is no.

If you are transferring to the computer through the DV port, WinDV will work. Once you get it on the computer, most AVI video editors will work. You may need to install a DV codec for some. The Panasonic DV codec is one of them.

You can also use VirtualDub to edit. All these are freeware.

If you have Vegas, give it a try. At least the newest version can do DV transfers.
