i think i already know the answer to my dumb question, but, can RAID 0 be cloned?? I have 2 WD 250 gig in Raid 0. I only have about 80 gig that would need to be put on my 100 gig USB drive. is there any way to make a single drive bootable from what i have???
thanks.....

I'm not sure what you mean? Do you want to transfer the 80G to a USB drive, then disable the RAID array to two single drives, then transfer the 80G back to one of them? Is the RAID your boot drive?
Disabling the RAID is easy enough. The RAID BIOS should show up when you boot and you should be able to disable it there. I quit using RAID 0 a few years ago, especially as boot, after a few crashes and system reinstalls.
Most newer drives are fast enough without RAID, and avoid some of the headaches associated with losing all your data. RAID 1 or higher is good for redundancy, but totally trusting valuable or irreplaceable data to any hard drive without other forms of backup can be risky. -
yes, raid is my boot drive and i want to do away wih raid but not loose any data or have to re-load windows---does that make sense???
thanks for the reply -
this is an interesting question. I would like to assume the raid is acheived at a lower level and the cloning software would simply see it as a single drive. I'm interested in seeing how it works, however.

Q. Can you clone a RAID?
A. Yes
We've cloned RAID 5. I do not believe other RAIDs would pose a problem.

RAID 0 splits your data into two halves to improve the data transfer rate. Since there is no fault tolerance with RAID 0, you will lose all data if either drive fails. Your RAID controller makes your system think your RAID 0 drives are simply one logical drive. All you need to do is install your new drive on the system and copy the content if you are just storing data on your RAID 0. If you have installed your system or software is installed on it, you can use Norton Ghost to copy your RAID 0 content onto a single drive.
