    Hi pc geeks

    System went into standby mode..
A strange thing just happend to me while I was composing a post inside
my wordpad (I use it regulary for all my daily postings) anyways.. and
as I was tying, and to the best of my knowledge, the last few key strokes
that I can best remember, was something along the lines:

Ctrl; S; Ctrl; and a few other keys.

What had happend was my pc had disconnected me from the internet, and it
starting shuting down my pc. Got to the black DOS screen. So, out of
panic, I kept pressy keys, and everything *immediately* came back to life
including my wordpad document that I was typing in.

Now, as I recall, last time I asked here, the question:

does my pc have hybernation mode, so that I could put my pc in this mode
and then shut down this way, but keep my browser window and other apps
right where they were last. Then, the next day, when I come back to it,
I just have to hit a key, and everything comes back to life, only faster,
and where I last left off.

I'm still looking for this feature for my WIN98 computer, and this latest
issue has re-ignited the idea. But first..

** What cause my system to shut down into standby mode, in this manor ??
** and, is it the same as hybernation ??

    System Spec:
    ** WIN98 gold
** kvm 2 pc switch, by iView

    Thanks,

  2. Maybe you hit the Windows key instead of the Control key? On my computer Windows-u-s, goes to standby mode.

    jagabo,

is that the same as Hybernation ??

At work, on a my pals pc, a w2k setup, goes into hyber.n mode when
he shuts down for the day. The next morning, I do'em a favor and
turn it on for'em.. not cause its inaffecient, but because it is a
PII 235 Mhz or something, and it takes forever to boot up even in
hyber mode. But, what I like about it, is that all the apps can
stay open, and one can resume where they left off after this hyer
    mode shut down

Yeah, I'll have to give those keystrokes a go, my next shut-down.

    Thanks again.

  4. Standby and hibernation are slightly different:

In standby mode just about everything is shut down except RAM. The computer may look like it's powered off but the contents of memory is intact. When the computer comes out of standby everything is powered back up and your system is running just as it was before. But if you lost power (or your battery went dead on a laptop) the state of the computer would be lost.

Hibernate mode is similar to standby but the contents of memory is saved to the hard drive. When the computer is restarted the RAM contents are restored from the hard drive. So if you lost power (or the batteries died) you would still be able to pick up where you left off.
