Can someone please help me? I have ripped dvds no problem and encoded them with Tmpgenc and had no audio problems what-so-ever.
But when I try to encode a home movie from my vcr the avi that I make plays fine-picture and sound on my computer. But when I encode it using Tmpgenc to make a VCD the picture is fine but the sound makes crackling sounds like it is distorted or too loud but the sound is coming from directly the vcr. I tried adjusting the priority setting of the wave reader under enivronmental settings and still have the same problem. Other settings are: frequency is 44100 hz , 224kbps When I do dvd ripping and encoding using Tmpgenc I have not problems at all. Please someone help me? It's driving me crazy. If it is something simple that I'm doing wrong please forgive me and reply. I'm using Tmpgenc 2.02 . I have tried using SCMPX as an external audio encoder and STILL had the problem. I'm running a p4 1.5 ghz 512 ddram. Thanks for reading this.

ms,
funny u should mention that---i recently updated my hardware and noticed doing a capp from vhs, that on this new pc, my avi's have distorted sound, crackling, noise, hum, etc..... now, this tape has video recorded from different medium (cam, other video analogue and digital), only some parts, it was affected. Tried another tape and it was fine.
Searchin da forums i found some tips that may help..
Have you tried different line-in's, sound cards, on and off board-pci, etc.
I have on-board sound disabled on mine and have my ati connected to the creative sound card internally.
