I have a hdtv/dvr box and I want to do an analog capture. I can't get WinDVD to capture. It works with Virtualdub but the files get too big and I would like to capture in MPEG2. When I have WinDVD running I don't get any picture or sound until I press play, but then I can't record! Even when I press play only half the picture shows up. Please help

What capture card are you using on your computer? You should fill out your comptuer detail so we can see what you have.
It's usually best to record with the original software that came with your capture card. That way you shouldn't have many conflicts.
However programs like Ulead Dvd Movie Factory (all versions I believe) can capture from your capture card. Just load that software and tell it to use your analog input source and then choose mpeg2 and your recording quality level. You should be just fine.
Also with virtualdub your probably capturing to uncompressed avi. Try a lossless codec like huffy. They are in the https://www.videohelp.com/tools tools section. Then you can convert the smaller avi to mpeg2 with an encoder like tmpgenc.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I have the Nvidia Personal Cinema. I'll try the software that came with it Thanks!

I have tried every software that came with the card. Nothing works, all I get is audio. Is there some type of codec that I should have?
