Is it possible, like the topic says?
Lately a lot of the DVDs I've been working with have been dual layer DVDs, therefore not fitting on one of my normal DVD's on 4.7GB.
This means I have to compromise the quality, and that sucks!
Any ideas?

Time to buy some dual layer discs when they are on special. I'm still living off all those Fujis i bought on Boxing day for $8.00CAD/3 pack. No worries about losing quality that way.

Lately?? That's always been the case. Yes, you will loose quality if you insist onbacking up the whole DVD. To me the movie is the only important item in the DVDs I buy. Therefore I only backup the movie and 1 audio track Subs are useless to me as well. So I will usually be able to back up the entire movie without any shrinking or at the very least minimal ammount. They all endup looking great on my 52 DLP Toshiba. Even the ones with a bit of compression. Always use Analysis and one of the error compensation choices and though it will take longer, it will end up at pretty much the highest quality possible. Remember that DVD movie files are already compressed when they are authored. Some more or less than others but they are pretty much ALL compressed. The higher the original quality the better it will handle any compression that might be need.Lately a lot of the DVDs I've been working with have been dual layer DVDs, therefore not fitting on one of my normal DVD's on 4.7GB.
The only way to guarantee a 1 to 1 perfect copy is to use DL media or split the disk as already mentioned. No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -

There is than likely a problem with your disk itself. Try some other ripper like the latest DVDFabDecrypter and it is stops in the exact location then it is and error on your disk that can only affect things when you are ripping and maybe not when playing on a set top machine..

data error cycle redudancy error ...when i use dvd shrink always at the same spot

use DVDFAB DECRYPTER to rip to your hard drive then use DVDSHRINK. with the sony discs they have copy encryption codes that DVDSHRINK cannot by pass. DVDFAB DECRYPTER takes care of it. download it from the tools section

I've found this post to be extremely helpful. Exactly what I wanted. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1464354&highlight=#1464354. I've found that doing the 'optional' part he mentions is quite important. Also, some DVDs require a bit more work with Vobblanker than the guide shows if you want the second disk to come out just right...Not a problem once you try a few.Originally Posted by ottosen
