  1. I joined 2 .avi's, then converted them with "DVD ffmpeg".
When I went to burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder in Toast, I got the message that the disk I was using was encrypted with CSS, and Toast couldn't burn it.

What's up with that? I thought CSS was something you only found on DVD's, not inside a .avi file.

  2. I don't think it is encrypted. Probably something misleads Toast. You may convert the VIDEO_TS into a DMG image file with the "img" tool (you must select the folder containing both VIDEO_TS and an empty AUDIO_TS), then burn it with Disk Utility.

  3. Ooops! Not Toast, but Popcorn. Sorry, same answer?

I tried this and the resulting dvd isn't recognised in either my mac dvd player or the pioneer dvd player?

  6. You should mount the image and check which folders/files it contains. It should be a VIDEO_TS folder containing VOB files and other stuff, and an empty AUDIO_TS folder.

Yep that's all that was in the folder and the resulting burn wouldn't read?

  8. Does such VOB files taken one by one play in VLC?

Yes... interestingly this seems to be a quirk, where sometimes I get an export that toast can read, and sometimes I get one that can't, so I've just been quitting ffmpegx, restarting and re-encoding and eventually I get one that can be read by toast and I'm good to go.

Quality is still and issue, because any limitations in the source material or the burn really do show up on the 42" plasma
