    i used my ati card and copied a vhs tape. its in mpeg format. the problem is that its too big to fit on a dvd. how do i shrink it down to fit on a dvd ?

    You should have encoded it to the correct bitrate to begin with, then it would fit.

    Find the running time, and then use on of the bitrate calculators in the tools section ( like this one -> https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm) to determine the correct bitrate. Now reencode using thesenumbers and it should fit.

    ...or you could just author it as an "oversized" DVD to HDD, then shrink it with DVDShrink to fit a DVD5.
    Or, shrink the mpg with ReJig before authoring.
    But as guns1inger points out, it's best to do it right from the beginning.
