i recently replaced a basic keyboard with a semi-fancy compaq keyboard.. the problem now is that it is using some advanced functions and its kind of bothersome.. for example, i cant alt+F4 to close pages anymore.. and the F# keys have weird assignments for them.. i didnt install any software for the keyboard..
does anyone know how i can make this keyboard act like a normal keyboard? maybe switching drivers or something?

What does it say in the keyboard properties in the control panel?

Got a picture of this keyboard? Is there anything strange about it?

Some keyboards come with enhanced features that can be used (sometimes known as enhanced F keys). Under the enhanced mode, Standard F key operation is not permitted. Hence, you need to turn off or switch to standard F key mode. You may need to refer to the manual that came with the keyboard to change the operation mode.
On my keyboard, I have a button labelled F-Lock that allows me to switch between operations, maybe your keyboard has one too. -
okay. i installed the drivers for it and was able to use the F-on/off key to enable the keyboard to act normally.
thanks

Yeah this sounds like my new keyboard. Thats why I was asking questions. Same here there is a key and if I Press it the F keys don't work like the normally do.Originally Posted by lumis
