Newbie question here...I'm new to DVD authoring so bear with me. I have an AVI file [XViD MPEG4 + MPEG-1 audio layer 3 (MP3)] which plays perfectly with both WMP and PowerDVD. I have encoded this file using TMPGEnc Xpress 3 to a DVD templated .mpg which also plays perfectly. I burn to a MAXELL DVD+R disk and the video is perfect but the audio only offers chirping sounds and nothing more. Any idea what could cause this?

    File : 698 MB (698 MB), duration: 1:28:49, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 57 %
    Video : 600 MB, 945 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 608*256 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 97 MB, 153 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 3 (MP3), Supported

I converted the audio with VirtualDub to a 48000 Hz Wave file and then encoded.
Hey Mr. Taggert...ya want some beans?

    Encoded to... (mp2/ac3)?
... to a DVD templated .mpg
Could you also post the avicodec/gspot output for this file?

Have you just burned the mpeg file as 'data' on the disk or did you use an authoring program (in this case: which one?)

The AVICodec output is in the original post. I used the TMPGEnc DVD Authoring software V 1.6.34.89 and NO, I did not burn as a "data" disk.

the avi was PAL. was the mpeg2 encoding done as NTSC?
I said I'll be done in a minute. I meant a Microsoft minute.

Yes the encoding was done as NTSC. I converted both the video and the audio as I have done hundreds of times before.

Audio - Seperate with VirtualDub, convert with BeSweet
Video - Direct Stream Copy; Framerate change to 23.976 and use the
results of the Audio as the WAVE file input.

is the audio converted to ac3 at 48000 hz? what program are you using to author? DVD-Lab Pro doesn't like ac3 files done by BeSweet. i had the same problem but then i used ffmpeg for the ac3 conversion and that took care of the problem.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author Version 1.6.34.89

The audio is originally MP3 and stays MP3...I do NOT change it other than to save it as a wav file. It NEVER is AC3.

Funniest thing...although the original AVI and the encoded MPG play well on my home computer, they do NOT play at all on this computer here at work. In fact, the audio makes the same chirping sound on this computer here at work that I hear on the burned DVD at home. This is really screwy!!!

  8. and stays MP3
    MP3 is not dvd compliant.
Encode it to mp2 or ac3. Either with the built in encoder of TDA or (if you don't have the tmpgenc ac3 encoder) with besweet or ffmpeg. And use the elementary streams in TDA!
