Use TV as monitor?

Sorry, this may fit better in another section, but as it is a general question, I thought I'd post it here.

I am trying to use my TV as a second monitor for my PC.

I have an ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB PCI video card. This card has the following specs:

TV-Out: HDTV/S-Video/Composite Out; as well as one D-Sub and one DVI connection.

After connecting the S-Video Out on the video card to the S-Video In on my TV, I just get a black screen. When I connect my stand-alone DVD player up to the TV through the S-Video cable, everything works swimmingly.

In addition, the S-Video out on the gfx card works fine when I connect it to my monitor (Dell 2001FP).

Is there something I'm missing?

Actually, I think I figured it out. ATI comes with CCC (Catalyst Control Center)... just change the settings in there.

Why on earth would you want to do that? The quality is not going to be good at all... your going from your monitor that displays 72 or 96 dpi to your tv? hmmm unless you are doing video work and you want to make sure colors, title safe areas are correct I wouldn't recommend using your tv as a second monitor

I have a geforce 4ti 4200 vid card. I finally found a connector for the tv out, but i cannot get the video to appear on my TV. I have tried changing the settings but no luck. ( clone mode, TV as primary screen etc.) Is there something I'm missing?

So your going s-video out on the card to svideo in on the tv, and you are expecting the tv to act as a second monitor?

NAh, Thought I could watch some of the cartoons I have with the kids on the 32 inch TV. I figured out you have to reduce the display settings to get it on the Tv but how do I get the cartoon to play ?
I only get a black screen when I open the file to play.


Or maybe I am using it as a second monitor...
