  1. in the video transcoding options for sample format you can choose progressive, interlaced (top field first) or interlaced (bottom field first). ive not got a clue what any of those mean so can someone tell me which option will give me the best results? thanks

  4. If your source is progressive, you choose progressive
    If your source is interlaced with top field (Field A) first, you choose interlaced (top field first)
    If your source is interlaced with bottom field(Field B) first, you choose interlaced (bottom field first)
    What that means you look in the Glossary (here on the left top of the page there is field "GLOSSARY")

  5. okay thanks alot... sorry to be a pain but ive got one last question, how do i find out what the sample format of the source file is? i dont know much about this sort of thing if you cant tell.

  6. Generally if your source is DivX/XviD avi it is progressive. If the source is DV avi from camcorder it is bottom field first. If it is avi from capture it is top field first (or progressive).
    You can look at the interlaced lines (combing) loading the source in VirtualDub and seek to a place where there is motion.
    Now the field order is a bit more difficult. TMPG for example can automatically determine the field order in avi files (IIRC).
    Now if your source is DVD it can be interlaced or telecined. Generally holywood movies are telecined.
    This you can look loading the file in ReStream. If there is pattern with TFF folowed by BFF - that is telecining. How can Nero deal with this I don't know.
