Am having problems trying to create DVD's from .avi files (Well, I've not tried any other format yet so I'll just assume for the moment that it's .avi)

    I'm using Nero Vision 4 (version 4.7.0.9)

On the transcoding page, the elapsed time gets to around 3:20 and then the preview freezes along with every other counter apart from the Total Progress counter which keeps on ticking away. Have even gone away and come back 15 minutes later to find Total Progress time on around 17 minutes but the transcoding elapsed time hasn't changed.

Now, the odd thing is that I can create an SVCD or VCD using the same .avi file which I find a little odd. This proves that it's not a problem with the .avi.

I've only really just started using nero as I've not had the burner very long. Am wondering if it's a compatibility problem with xvid .avi's as I've transcoded divx .avi's with no problem what-so-ever.

    Any suggestions?

FAVC or DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD is your solution.

Or maybe upgrade to latest nero 5 something.

System and os are getting old, but there's nothing really wrong with that, just make sure those pc specs are correct.

Nero , especially the components for any thing related to "dvd" relies heavily on directx, so check the currently installed directx version.

Avidemux might be worth a look for the conversion process ... tis a real pity there's no information regarding windows os's supported.
