Playing video on my TV stright from my minidv looks great but after i convert it to DVD it looks worse? I use mainconcepts encoder and leave it's settings alone, i just click on DVD.

Personally, I never capture directly to mpeg. I like to be able to tweak the encoder settings and bitrate to get the best quality I can. Direct capture doesn't give me the freedom to do that nicely.
That said, specifically what is worse ? Is it the colour, the clarity, macro-blocking ? More detail might help us pin down a cause and therefore a solution.Read my blog here.

1.Make sure you encode interlaced,B(even) field order.
2.Try a higher bitrate.
3.Try another encoder.
