I have a .mpg captured from my cable box using CapDVHS. I want to create a DVD from it. I have the latest Nero Ultra. There is a "line" or some kind of noise in the top of the frames. I would like a suggestion for the easiest tool to remove this. I have DGIndex and found the "clipping" feature which does get rid of the problem area but got seriously screwed up trying to deal with that apps output files.

I really appreciate your help here! I'm so frustrated the Cat will not come within 10 feet of me...

  2. Poor kitty. I have a stray cat that doesn't like to stay inside. Gets mad at me and meows crazy.

Anyway analog signals will always have some noise on either or all of the sides of capture. Especially VHS, which has some noise on bottom of the frame. I would not waste time cropping. This noise will never be seen on any TV, because it will be in the overscan area. If you still want to remove it, any mpeg2 encoder has "mask" option. TMPGEnc has this option. Load your file into it, and select Mask option.

  3. Normal to have that at the top of the screen, It is only seen on the computer. If your target is DVD for TV, then leave it, it won't be seen. If your target is computer then you'll have to process to get rid of it.

I myself never bother with it since my target is DVD for viewing on TV set and I'll never see it due to Overscan.

    Cheers

Merlin is a Champagne Mink Tonkinese. He is concerned because he has noticed I am making lots of angry sounds and seem to have lost control of my motor control. I have been unable to explain to him I am merely frustrated by my inability to make this stuff do what I want.

TMPGEnc gets an error when trying to open the .mpg. It says it can only open the audio portion.

OMG! I just spent the most of the day trying to fix something that won't even affect the final DVD! The next time I am looking for a new hobby I think I'll try something simpler.

FYI: What you are seeing is the bottom of the vertical blanking interval. The last lines contain closed caption data, other data and transmission test signals.

Thanks! After all this the DVD I burned has artifacts everywhere.
The file plays without them on my PC.

    Back to the drawing board.
