Hello--I'm quite new to all of this.

I just got a new computer, (Flat Panel Dell 8200 PIV 2.2 Gig with a DV+RW)but it doesn't have a video capture card, so I'm on the lookout for one, and I'm going to transfer over to DVD.

I've been reading this forum, this site and others sites for about a week, and just when I think I know what I should get, I read someting that changes my mind.

So, I'm a tad confused. Basically, all I want to do is transfer my VHS tapes (some which were taped off TV, some that are home movies, and some that are actual commercial movies), and I would like to get something not too expensive, and easy to use, and easy to remove the Macrovision.

Also, I don't have any more PCI slots, (Durn Dell!)so I was thinking of USB, or maybe just switching out the 2 video cards, or the modem and the video card.....I was looking at the ADS Instant DVD (USB), or the Dazzle II, or maybe one of the other Dazzle products...?

Also, (more questions....lol you can tell I'm new at this) what about a TV Tuner? Some of them seem to allow you to also watch your VCR on your monitor (according to the Dell website on the HAUPPAUGE WinTV TV Tuner - USB version). Would that allow you to record the VHS to your harddrive or at least a CD or DVD (even temporarily?)

    Any thoughts? Comments? Recommendations?

    Thanks!

  2. A third option would be an AGP graphics+capture (such as the AIW Radeon)

Yeah! this forum is back !!

    I have more questions, now...

Since the forum was down, I was doing some more investigating.....How good is the PV231 and/or PV233? Does the PV233 ignore the macrovision as does the PV231? (according to steve kittelsen's site)

the quality looks pretty good...I'm not looking for anything really expensive

What are your thoughts, or experiences.....
