There is a size limit on menus - 1GB I believe - so be careful how much you put on there.

Render motion in dvd-lab pro, http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/Helppro/render.htm . You can pick any part of the video, add several clips and it will make a motion menu for you. You can also import the motion menu in other authoring tools, it is just a mpg video.

You can import vobs into DVD Lab Pro. Demux them when asked. If you want the preview screens to be menu links then there is a limit of 32 links per menu.

Thats the structure of DVDs. a VTS is a video title set. It can contain many titles, however there are a few restrictions. Titles in the same titleset must have the same aspect ratio, and must have the same audio format in audio track 1. While some players will play disks not authored like this, those disks are not com, pliant and may not play in other machines. If you have a 16:9 movie and a 4:3 documentary then you would create two VTS' and put the 16:9 footage in one, and the 4:3 footage in the other. The VMG (Video Manager Group) acts as abridge to allow you access to multiple VTS'.

The DVD Lab Pro help has a good decription of this stuff. Have a read so you really understand it. It makes life much easier later on when you start to create more complex disks.

If all your footage is the same (i.e. all 4:3 with AC3) just create a simple, single VTS with menus and add everything into the one titleset. No need for VMG menus etc.

Menu audio should be the same as the audio on the tracks in that titleset. You can use PCM, AC3, or mpeg1-layer2 as background audio (you can probably use DTS, although without a decoder no-one will hear it), but if the audio of the tracks in that menu's titleset is different, there is a good chance they will play silent. While you are starting out and using simple titleset layouts, it is best to stick with a single audio format (AC3 2 channel is a safe bet).

Menus don't play like chapters, which is why navigation is designed the way it is. What you can do is set the connection to the next and previous menus to autoactivate. This way all you need to do is move onto them - you don't have to hit enter as well. Look up autoactive in the DVD Lab Pro help.
