  4. I've had the same problem. MPEG1 files that I know are atleast serveral minutes long all playback like they are only about a minute or so in length, after which the movie just stops. If you drag the time slider around you can jump to later parts but never really extend the clip. I don't have a great solution but I do have several extra observations and one work around.

    Observations:
    - It doesn't happen to all my .mpg files. But it did with all the ones that I merged from several individual clips using a simple merging utitlity or that I suspect might have once been individual clips.
    - I've tried viewing with the latest versions of RealOne Player, Windows Media Player, and Quicktime. It makes no difference. Same problem in each one.
    - I used the DXMan utitlity to look at my codecs. The file listed for most of the MPEG functions and the MPEG video decoder was called quartz.dll. When I do Properties->About on the video decoder line I get a window telling me it is the Microsoft MPEG Video Decoder - version 2.0. From 1997. Has Microsoft ever updated the thing?

    The work around:
I can play all my screwed up MPEGs at their expected length using the Cyberlink PowerDVD software. Basicly you do Select Source->Open Media files. I imagine it must override whatever codecs are on the PC with its own customized drivers. Its nice to have this work around but I'd still prefer a real fix.

You could try the 'fix mpeg errors' function in VcdGear.
