I have Plextor PX 708A. I burn disks with Nero 6. But I have problems, trying to burn TDK or especially Maxell DVD-R media. The writing is normaly ended succesfully but verification failed, data is impossible to read. The disc are on the "under" side colorful - there are some parts darker, some lighter and than again some darker... What can be the problem - writer, program or media? Thanks for all sugestions or answers!

sounds like defective media. use DVDINFO PRO to get the media codes from those TDK & MAXELL. I use TDK media code TTG01 & MAXELL media codes TYG01 & MXL RG02 on my PLEXTOR 708 with no problems. Some MAXELL DVD-R media is RITEK made in taiwan. TDK DVD-R media could also be made in taiwan CMC which is crappy for the PLEXTOR 708A drive. Use the RECOMMENDED BRANDS OF DVD MEDIA that PLEXTOR supports. Media code, Media code is important not just the brand name. Get the MADE IN JAPAN spindles which can be read on the spindles of the MAXELL & TDK.

Thank's. The suplier tell me some minutes ago, that he recomended me to buy "+" media, because "-" isn's as good as "+" for big files (my files are biger than 4 Gb - one file). I try and report.

Its just like budz says, check them TDK and Maxells to see what they ACTUALLY are. They are both probably the cheap Taiwanese versions, not Maxell or TDK true.
What the supplier told you is a load of codswollop. Nothing to do with if its "+" or "-"
DON'T waste your money on his suggestion. The guys here know better than him. Trust me. -
it's not "minus" it's "dash"

Yeah. I've read it should be pronounced "dash" but I prefer the "minus" and my reason is both obvious and logical.Originally Posted by stiltman

Probably media but no gurantee. For some posts on the rings on the written side see this post. Few suggestions but no follow ups or solutions but may help.Originally Posted by gumpec

You could always try a quick and simple ISO read and write with Decrypter and see if the media shows the same after writing.
With my 708A I always got one dark ring using Maxell yellow tops (either TY or MXL code). With TY 4x from Rima I never got any discoloration. Get the code to know what the exact media is as budz suggested.

Nothing logical about being wrong.

it's the media and your plex doesn't like it
what's the diference between dash and minus....????/
-
The other format is a plus(+) so it is just logical to call (-) minus to easily differentiate the two. Perhaps, the original consortium who developed the (-) format intended it to be called "dash." Fine.Originally Posted by lordsmurf

Believe me, in every store I went to, those guys easily understand when I ask them "where are your DVD minus Rs? Not one said "what are you talking about?'
Now, how many people specially the newbies call it dash? I do not speak English fluently but I know "dash" has a lot other meaning aside from that little horizontal line. So "hyphen" is more appropriate if you will ask me.

purely a FYI thing
its a dash but you can call it whatever you want for what ever reason you want
Dash commonly known as minus, thats fine, whatever -
You can try to justify it all you want. It's still simply wrong. And it's not a hyphen either. It's a dash. A dash is a slightly longer line.

Naming the product DVD+R was simply a marketing ploy. DVD+R was made in the first place, simply to circumvent paying royalties etc.
The +R just named so, to make their product look superior.
Both media's can be good, and horrible. Both media's are compatible on almost all DVD Players on the market today.
Just go with quality + or -, and you should be fine.:star: :star: :star: :star:

Don't know about that. Just try typing DVD-R on your keyboard if you can using your touted "dash." I never see it anywhere (websites, advertisements, articles, etc.) as being written with a dash per your definition. It is wrong to still read it as "dash" when in fact it is written as a "hyphen," don't you think? If it is a hyphen, then it is a minus.Originally Posted by lordsmurf

I'll take this as a compliment. BTW, ever noticed how they advertise and label the dual format DVD writer? The (+) sign is on top of the (-) sign. How am I going to read it? Plus dash? At least, it rhymes.Originally Posted by richdvd

I get it. It's the same way you say CD-R (CDR). So, DVD-R is DVDR. Makes sense.Originally Posted by lordsmurf
