  1. Greetings!
Can someone please tell me the differences between the MPEG-2 Program (VBR) and MPEG-2 SuperVideo CD (VBR) options? I have some SVCD-compliant MPEGs which I need to edit, but found the Merge & Cut Tools of TMPGEnc rather buggy. Trying M2-Edit Pro suits my needs, but it only outputs to MPEG-2 Program which, according to Nero, isn't SVCD compliant. TMPGEnc, however, can take this file and process it to create a SVCD-compliant MPEG.
My fear with trying the above workarounds is that I may lose video quality. Please let me know the disadvantages of taking a SVCD-compliant file, editing it to an MPEG-2 Program file, then re-encoding it to be SVCD-compliant again. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

In the advanced settings of M2 Edit, select Program under Mpeg-2 Video,

Under Output the "Width*Height" needs to be 480*480.

    Video ID: 0xE0
    Audio ID: 0xC0

    Mux Rate: default
    Sector Size: 2324.

As long as your file is with in SVCD specs (480x480 29.97fps, 2788800 bit/sec mux rate, 44.1kHz audio, 2324 packet size) Nero won't reject it.

If all your doing is cutting, you can also use bbMpeg to mux, and set it to cut either by seconds, or size.

  3. Thanks for the info. I tried last night, making sure I used the numbers above, but I still get a noncompliant SVCD MPEG File. I'm using the latest release of Nero. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

    What is Nero's complaint?

    Double check,
    480x480(576 for pal)

    44.1khz audio

    29.97fps(25 for pal)

    2324 mux packet size

    mux = 2788800 bit/sec

You can re-load your multiplexed mpeg into M2Edit, and use the info pannel to check the properties.

It's been awhile since I've used Nero, but it never complained after a M2edit (Pro edition 3.03 and 4.00), neither does IAuthor or Philips SVCD Verifier.

Perhaps you could look at VCD Easy, which is a great front end for VCDImager.

  5. I'll have to check tonight on the exact words, but I believe Nero rejects the file because video stream does not comply to SVCD v1.0 specs. I'll try the other programs mentioned in your reply. Thanks for your guidance on this issue.

  6. Tried last night, again making sure that I encoded using the numbers above, then tried to create a SVCD using Nero. The exact error message Nero gave me was as follows:

"Stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super]Video-CD."

I could not get any other details or help from Nero.

Looks like I'll just use M2-Edit Pro to perform an exact cut of my SVCD MPEG2 files, then use TMPGEnc to merge them. I'll also try the other mentioned Programs above to see if they suit my needs.

Anyway, thanks for all your help!

I've had a lot of problems with Nero and SVCDs.

Half the time it thinks a valid file is not valid. When it does accept the file it has never written a disc my DVD will play. So OK maybe my player (Wharfedale 750s) is fussy - but vcdimager writes images that work just fine.

I can't say enough good things about VCDEasy - it works a treat and has lots of nice features, more all the time. I've really been impressed with the latest version. But then I was making images with vcdimager and cutting them with cdrdao by hand - command line commando style.

    Give VCDEasy a try.

  8. 1) download bbmpeg

    2) do all the editing you need to your files then demux them using tmpgenc or similar

    3) use bbmpeg to mux the files back together and choose svcd in the muxing options
