DVD to DIVX

How do I convert a DVD into a divx file. I used these http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm directions but I couldn't open the vob files with VirtualDub that I made with Smartripper. Am I using the right directions? These are the programs that I use Virtual Dub, TMPGenc, SmartRipper, DVD2AVI. Can you guys lead me in the right direction and any tools needed? Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated.

You have to create a project file with dvd2avi, that you can open in TMPG. If you want to use Virtual dub, you have to convert the project file (*.d2v) with VFAPI Convert ( http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/mpg/VFAPIConv-1.04-EN.zip ) to a "dummy" avi, that you can open in Vdub.
TMPGEnc is a MPEG encoder, you don't need it, if you want DivX.

Is there any other way to do it? And how long does this convert to Divx take? This AVI file I am making will be a Divx? I put outgoing as a Divx but I didn't see any option for audio. So will I be OK?
