Best Divx Ultra DVD Player with Full file Names for MP3 and DivX Files

I'm looking for a very compatible DivX Ultra DVD Player with the following features:
1. DivX Ultra, the latest versions
2. On screen display of MP3 and DivX files with Full or long File names, duration, etc.
3. Unit that plays the most video file types (very compatible with many types of video files)
4. Must have a SVHS Output (which I know the newer Philips units don't have)

I have a Pioneer DV-400V-K but it's always in the service center! I will never buy another Pioneer Unit (it's a long horror story with this company, bad quality and bad support).

One feature that I really liked on the Pioneer Unit is that you could press the display button and it would show the name of the DivX file that's playing along with the duration and file extention.
I have a Philips 642 but it only shows about 8 characters of the filenames and has no real on screen display and deosn't even play AVI Files.

You can go to divx.com to get a list of certified players. Long filename support is hit or miss including how it is implemented. Of the various players that I have used over the years, I've not seen one with a file display like your Pioneer, so that is likely a Pioneer feature.

I have two of the Philips DVP-642's (original version) and they both play most AVI files just fine. You are likely trying to play files that aren't properly encoded for standalone use.

I have a couple of disks of .AVIs I've dowloaded, and didn't change the file names before I burned them. They show up with long file names just fine on my Panasonic EH75V. However, I have other disks where I've changed the file names, and they show up on my Panasonic with 8.3 DOS style file names. They play just fine, though.

How can I rename files prior to burning them so the Panasonic can read them?

To Pioneer Customer Service
After waiting for three months, I just picked up the Pioneer DV-410VK at the service center (replacement for a defective DV-400).

Unbelievably, like the unit it replaced, this unit will not display on the menu or play any files with the file extension MPG. It will not play any MPEG-2 files!

It recognizes and plays file with the extension AVI, WMVand DivX but no MPG files.
This machine will not play files that play in my Pioneer DV-588A-S, the first DV-400K when it played computer video files or the Philips 642.

What's going on with Pioneer DivX units, that they either will only work correctly for a few months(like the first DV-400 or will not play any MPG files at all, like the second DV-400 and this DV410?

Attached is information about an MPEG-2 file I captured from a DVR with an ATI All In Wonder Card 800Series, placed in GSpot a Video file utility. Also attached is a sample MPEG-2 captured file that won't play on this unit.

I sent a DVD with sample video files, with the replaced DV-400, which was not returned to me from Pioneer.

You should add USB to list and I believe the Oppo 980 is the only player in the U.S. that has what you want. Right now I'm using the LG LDA-831 and it does everything you state and has USB but for some reason LG doesn't seem to have any DIVX players in the U.S. anymore. It's too bad because the Philips suck.

I wrote to several companies including Oppo and LG and they don’t have the features I’m looking for. The Oppo units don’t have an onscreen display and long filenames.
There are very few options for Divx Ultra in the United States. I checked at Divx.com.
No other units, so far, have the onscreen display and long filename support of the Pioneer units. The last three Pioneer units I’ve had have all been defective in some way. The Pioneer DVP410 (I had to wait three months for warranty replacement of) does not see or play files with the extension MPG. Even my very old Philips 642 can read these files.
I’m not crazy about Philips units because of the short file names, no SVHS Output and very bad remote and file interface but they are one of the very few companies that offer Divx Ultra in the US.

I don’t understand why so few companies offer Divx Ultra in the US and why full filenames and onscreen displays are so hard to find.

The 980 does indeed display long file names but each has to be highlighted to see it as such and then it will scroll.

isn't the short file names (8.3 dos type) a function of the fact that they are only fat32 compatible... without (patented) long file name support...poss msoft patent

Welcome to the forums lou0611, but we generally discourage people from posting to old threads unless it is really necessary. In this case, in my opinion, there was no need as those interested in this old thread could easily determine for themselves what you found out. However, I've seen worse too. I've seen follow up posts much later in some threads that were less relevant than yours. One loser dug up a thread 2+ years old just to basically say he agreed with someone who posted more than 2 years ago. If you see a thread more than 1 month old, I'd suggest that you ask yourself if what you have to say is really so important that it needs to be said. If not, just leave these old threads alone. I'm not wanting to slap you down, but to (I hope) gently point out that this is not really something you want to make a habit of.

Half of the certified players are made by Philips, but there are a few other manufacturers.
