windows xp installation

i am trying to do a windows xp repair install, but it requires the administrator password. i do not remember what the password is. what are my options?

I use ERD Comander to reset passwords.

It depends on the system. In a default installation, there is no password for the adminstrator. Have you tried no password yet?

Have you tried this method? I don't honestly know if it works since I've never tried it but I gave you a starting point. If it works then that's a nice hack to know. Since I'm an IT tech I don't need hacks - I have software to simplify things but you might want to let us know if this hack works or, if it fails, at which stage.

Go to http://www.xcopy32.com and there are plenty of password reset utilites out there.

Just boot to DOS and run one of the utilites.

Usually there is a blank password unless you specify otherwise when you do the initial install.

i tried no password as well as any password i ever use and none of them worked.. maybe there is a problem deriving from the fact that i am using a windows xp home cd trying to repair a windows xp pro installation..

That could be a problem. XP home will not repair an xp pro install. If you want to go with xp home, you need to format and install xp home.
