for xmas i wanted to convert my parents old 8mm to a dvd. i considered doing it myself (with my pana gs120) but didnt want to buy other equipment. i did some searches on the net and settled on www.homemoviesdepot.com.
it cost me about $250. i had 26 small reels. they have a really slick online editor that lets you rearrange the chapters (each reel is a chapter) and specify the chapter title, thumbnail and background music. i am pretty happy with the results.

If you have your 8mm film transferred, specify at least a MiniDV master and then make your DVD copies from that.
There will be much more detail in the MiniDV transfer and future encoders will do much better job with enhancement. -
Evening guys. (I'm stuffed) ... anyways.
sigpop 's 8mm *IS* the master, while his dv transfer is the 2nd generation.
However, *if* his 8mm were to suddently disapear, *then* his "2nd generation"
would become the master :P
