Can't hear voices

I can't hear the voice on any of the avi's i try to play that are ac3 encoded...i tried reinstalling the codecs many times ...the only player that i can hear the voice in is bsplayer and i dont like bsplayer...anyone kno how i can fix this?

Do you have any DVD software installed on your machine? I use the latest version of PowerDVD (5, I think) to play that kind of file. WinDVD can do it as well, IIRC. You might try installing one or teh other and see waht happens.

tryout free mediaplayer classic -> there use internal AC3 decoder

i dont want a new player..i want to be able to play video with videolan or winamp or wmp like before...they all used to work fine

Hello,

You could also try ac3filter. It's helped me out on ac3 decoding. Also, have you checked your soundcards speaker settings??? If it's set on 5.1 (if it is a 5.1 card) you need a center channel to hear the dialogue.

Just switch it to 4 or 2 speakers and it will mix the dialogue center channel with the stereo speakers and you'll hear everything normally. Good luck.

Check all the AC3 settings. If you have the AC3 filter most people here have use: Start -> All Programs -> AC3 Filter -> AC3 Filter Config.

Check the volume level of each channel and the speaker configuration.
