If you want the logos to be part of the video with effects such as fade-in, fade-out you need to use a video editor such as Ulead Video Studio (for a cost).

However if you just want the logos to show for a few seconds you can use freeware programs such as 'VCDEasy' to author a VCD with the logos included.

The following is how you would do it in VCDEasy, it may sound a bit tricky at first but after you've done it once it will be easy.

    1. Create your logo as a bitmap ('BMP') file - use any graphics program.
    2. In the Tools section of VCDEasy use the 'MPEG Still' option, drag your 'BMP' file into the window and it will create an 'MPG' still file.
    3. Now go to the '(S)VCD - Main' option and drag the MPG 'still' file into the files window, then drag your video file in, followed by the MPG 'still' file again. ( you will now have 3 files ready to burn i.e your logo, then video, then logo again).
    4. Now go to the 'Interactivity' option and in the 'PLAY Item' list select the first file (logo file) - set the 'wait' time to how long you want the logo to show (e.g. 5 secs), do this also for the 3rd file (the closing logo).
    5. You can now hit 'GO' and create your disc.

When played it will show the logo for 'x' seconds then automatically start the video and at the end of the video it will again show the logo for 'x' secs.

(Note: This is same method you would use to create a menu for your video - just need to set more chapter and interactivity options).

  3. I'd agree with using VCDeasy. I do this very thing all the time so I can put warning info at the start of a movie (if it's adult) and also a CD change frame at the end. This method works great because it doesn't add very much to the total filesize of the project.

An extra little trick I do is to create an image with just black on it and save that as an MPEG still using the VCDeasy tools. That way, I can set my opening image to be up for 10 seconds, the black image for 2 seconds and then to the actual video.

Check out the guide on how to use VCDeasy. Once you learn how easy it is to make chapter points, you'll do this with every video file you make.

Video Studio is still your answer. If it only a single application, Video Studio has a demo version that will give you thirty days to make your video logo.

After loading your video into it, go to the Overlay function. Load your logo onto the overlay track, select how big it should be, where it should be located, and how long you want it to last on your original video.
    Hello.

If your source is AVI (or anything else that VDub can open), you can use the Logo filter in VirtualDub to add a logo either thruout the movie, or just between certain frames, with option to fade in and out. Have just done this once in a movie, but it ought to be possible to set up one filter for the startup logo, then one for the end logo.
The logo is std BMP, and one color (of your choice) is set to transparent. Then frame serve to your encoder. Couldn't be simpler.

The Logo filter doesn't come with VDub - it's a separate download, found at Donald Grafts site.

  10. I have VirtualDub 1.5.1 and it has the logo filter. But it doesn't have the option to fade in/out and begin/end. Do I need to download another filter?

  14. Thanks for the replies. I found the filter and figured out how to fade in/out at the beginning of the video. But I can't figure out how to do it at the end of the video.

Add the same filter again, and set new start/end frames (this time at the end of your movie).
