  1. I bought a pioneer 105 last week (have not flashed the firmware), finally burned a DVD-R disk with it, used Nero 55914, the media was Princo 1-4x, I choose test speed/simulation/write. It took 40 min, the disk will not work in my Pioneer 454 standalone player (cannot play disk on the screen) but it will work in my Pioneer 444 standalone player.
Can anyone offer a reason as to why it won't work on my 454?

I think that it depends on what software you use to burn your DVD.Pioneer dvd players don't seem to like disks burned by nero for some reason so I would suggest trying stomp recordnow max as my cousin now uses this to get his disks to play in his pioneer. What the difference is between your players is I don't know except that the different models probably have different firmware.Anyway try Stomp to see if it can get them to play on your 454.

    Yo Boyle,

here's my method that makes a dvd that works on ALL stand alones!!
    I've also got a Pioneer Dvr-a05...

    1. Rip original DvD with DvD Decrypter
    2. Do your stuff eg. transcaling with dvd2one/instantcopy/splitting
    3. Use IfoEdit to update the VTS sectors for all the Video_TS*.* in the \VIDEO_TS folder, this is important!
    4. Manually create an AUDIO_TS folder next to the VIDEO_TS folder
    5. Burn with Nero 5.5.10.20 :

    - Choose DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)
    - Choose ISO level 1
    - Choose ISO9660
    - Do NOT select Joliet
    - Do NOT relax the ISO restrictions
    - Use Physical Partition UDF v1.02

    6. Burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders in the root of the dvd and enjoy!

I've always had problems on SOME stand-alone dvd players with older versions of Nero but in this new version (v5.5.10.20) the guys at Ahead Software seem to have the problems fixed.

Now I can make everybody happy with my 'backup' dvd's

Pioneer DVD players seem to have some odd problems with files burned by Nero's older versions. Version 55.10.20 should work for you, or try Stomp Record Now Max and they should play ok on your burner.
