    Hey all,

I record in uncompressed AVI using virtual-dub capture. Perfect quality. I then load it all into tmpg plus to convert it to SVCD.

When I set it to CBR everything encodes perfectly, nice picture, audio stays in sync. I can view the mpg2 file on my comp, and fast forward to different parts of the movie. All stays in sync.

BUT!!!! I set it to 2pass-vbr for high motion video, and it seems excellent when it is finished. However, if i view it on my comp, and move the slider to even 10 mins into the clip (its actually like 55 mins) the audio is gone for about 5 seconds, then comes in, but is completely out of sync by like 3-4 seconds.

HOWEVER, when i play it straight from the beginning, and let it play, everything stays in sync throughout the whole clip, and even when i burn it, it stays in sync in a DVD player.

My question is, although this isnt really affecting anything, why does the audio krap out when i encode with 2pass-VBR and fast forward in the clip?

    Syndrome

  2. Are you view the encoded file on media player...if so then that is the problem. My media player crashes everytime I try and play a svcd file...

Use a program called winDVD to view the file....it's very good player

  3. You could check your GOP structure. A closed GOP structure produces a bigger file, but better FF results. [Output bitstream for edit (Closed GOP)]

Try viewing only on WinDVD or PowerDVD. WMP is NOT DVD/SVCD friendly ( it doesn't like VBR on my PC). I use ZoomPlayer with excellent results. Sometimes I jump forward, I get a pause, then fast video until it syncs in about 2-5 seconds. I'm usually jumping 100's of MB forward and it takes a second. I ahve noticed a difference in viewing DISK mode versus FILE mode. Disk mode works and File mode de-syncs.

    hey all

I tried opening the file in windvd and powerdvd, but neither of them will recognize .mpg files! remember, this problem is BEFORE it is burned to a SVCD. This problem only occurs while it is still on my hard-drive

when i fast forward in the clip (move the slider to the right) everything goes badly out of sync, however when i just let it play, it stays perfectly in sync... does anyone know how to fix this?

  6. syndrome it does recognise mpg files..thats what SVCd are in essence

Heres what you do (unless your already doing this)

Right click on the screen and click playlist.....then retrive your mpg using the browser and hit ok. it will play ...I am sure of it.

Not many people realise you can use intervideo/windvd as a file player from your hdrive....

You can also play VCD's in it....it is a really great program. I was using ndvd from nvidia but I prefer windvd cause it plays svcd and vcd as well as DVD and is well supported by region free software...
