    OK this is weird. I downloaded a movie which suppose to be SMR. It ends in a .avi extension. I tried playing it and all I got was a black screen and no sound. I installed the smr patch, but no change. I loaded it in Vdub and got a DX50 error. DX50 is divX5.0 so I reinstalled 5.03, but no change. I tried other players besides media player, and again no chnage.

    Any idea what the problem might be?

    try loading it into gspot. it will tell you what codecs the movie uses and if you have it installed.
