  1. In terms of visual quality(after conversion), which solution is better?

    XviD-->VCD or XviD-->Divx-->VCD?

    Why would you want to convert to DivX before making your VCD?.
    The more convertions the more you are likely to lose a bit of quality. Are you having problems converting from XviD?, cos' that's the flavour of the month right now and there's loads of good advice around.

  3. I don't know, I just read some posts here and some of them would rather do the Divx conversion first, cuz they believed by doing this quality wouldn't loss that much compare with directly covert Xvid to VCD. That's what I wonder.

    As long as your source is good I doubt you will get any benefits from converting to DivX before encoding. You cannot improve on the quality of your source.
    I'm aware that some ppl have problems playing and encoding files using the XviD codec but they can be resolved quite easily.

    Yes, every conversion step you can remove will result in better end quality. Some think (or may just say) that using fourcc to change "XviD" to "DivX" in the AVI (which seems to make life easier for systems that have trouble with XviDs) is the same as converting the XviD to DivX, which it of course is not.

    For some reason, even if you have what you think are the right codecs installed, there can be problems playing and encoding using the XviD codec. I do not have the experience or expertise to understand why, what I do know is the XviD codec must be close enough to DivX to enable It's fourcc code to be manipulated in order to make life easier.

    I'm sure I did'nt emply this to be a re-encode.

    Just helping

    @ABAB - I wasn't pointing at you ! But many posts say stuff like "Convert it to DivX with fourCC" which may lead to confusion.
