  1. I am using Instant Copy to author a DVD, and the bar on the bottom of the screen turns red after 4.32GB. I am using 4.7GB DVD+R media, so can't I have 4.7GB instead of 4.32GB?

I read that you can hit F5 to re-enable the OK button to be able to burn that much, I just want to make sure it will not "overburn" or cause any problems to my burner.

    Thanks.

  2. You may be experiencing the difference the disk manufacturers' version of "giga" and the memory/operating system makers' version. DVDs have 4,700,000,000 bytes, which DVD makers call 4.7 GB, using the mathematicians' version of "giga".

Memory amounts are defined using powers of 2, so a KB from memory perspective is not 1000, but rather 1024, and a GB is not 1,000,000,000, but rather 1,073,741,824. 4,700,000,000 divided by 1,073,741,824 is 4.38.

So your DVD is 4.7 disk GB, and your DVD is 4.38 memory GB.

  3. Ok, so according to this I SHOULD be able to select up to 4.38, correct?

Sometimes when only selecting 4.32 and keeping the meter green....it encodes fine, but when i go to burn....instant copy gives you a message that the file size is too big to fit onto the disk, and asks if you want to truncate it or just cut it off at the end. I select truncate and it plays fine.

    Is this normal?

    I have a Sony DRU 500 and i'm using Ritek sliver/purple's

it did the same thing when i put a different brand DVD-R as well

I'v read that you should set the slider to about 4.6 gig and you will come close to using the full capacity. Also, there are tools and more advanced reg hacks at www.doom9.org. Check it out.
