Hi everyone. I'm new in this forum and I have a question about this wonderful app. When I want to convert a movie to DVD I use the option DVDffmpeg (the other option "DVD mpeg2enc" doesn't work and I don't know why). I set the size to 4400Mb and push "rate" button to get the video bitrate. Then I use audio bitrate to 224 and finally, in "options" tab I select: "high quality", "4 motion vectors", "Trellis quantization" and "quarter pixel ME".
Everything goes fine but I get a file of only 3Gb, wasting 1.5Gb of my DVD. Anyone knows why?
Thank you in advance and sorry for my poor english![]()

Use a higher bitrate and re-encode. For 90 minutes and under I tend to use >6400 average bitrate for video and 320 kbps for 2.0 AC3 audio (although 192 kbps is fine really).
I think that for compatibility with most stand-alone DVD players it's best not to use Quarter pixel ME.

Another thing: You should push the "rate" button at the very end, after you've made all of your other choices. If you push "rate" before you select the audio bitrate, then you will have chosen an inappropriate video bitrate (either too high or low, depending on whether you reduced or increased the audio bitrate from its initial setting).
Also note that the bitrate specified is often a target value (if variable bitrate encoding is used). If the target qmin/qmax values can be met at lower bitrates, then the file size will end up being smaller. This does not necessarily mean that the extra bitrate is "wasted." It means simply that the extra bitrate would have provided a negligible improvement in quality.
