  1. Hi.
I have a Divx and it's subtiltes in differents files. I want to record them on a Cd to make a Vcd (not Svcd because my dvd player doesn't support it!!!). I was told to use the Virtual dub to paste de subtitles in the video.
But I want a Vcd that you can put the subtitles or watch the movie without them if you want. So, they don't have to be paste in the video.
How can I record the subtitles in the Vcd so that they are a different file from the video, and I can put when I want?

    thanks, neoz

What you're looking for are user-selectable subtitles. VCD's DO NOT support them. All video material for VCD's must be "flattened" and hardcoded into the main video, either before or during encoding.
This severely limits what you can do on a hardware player.

In software on a computer, however, you can create a VCD and have user-selectable subtitles for playback in Windows Media Player, via usage of the ASX metafile and "SAMI"-formatted subtitles.

Well, with SVCD you could rely on the aformentioned ASX/SAMI method, but the good news is you don't have to. Why?
SVCD supports user-selectable subtitles (known in SVCD parlance as OGT-overlay graphics and text). Up to 4 are possible, IIRC.
There are a number of guides and How-to's in the forums and on the left that explain the different tools and procedures for incorporating subs with SVCD, and yes, there are a number of freeware/shareware tools.

  5. For SVCDs you have two choices: SVCD subtitles (which few standalone players support) and CVD subtitles (which most, but not all, standalone players support). You can d/load the SVCD subtitle abd CVD subtitle demo clips to see what your DVD supports. And check the DVD Players guide to the left (which is not 100%) as well.

With that said. There are a lot of programs to add selectable subtitles to MPEG2 (SVCD) streams. WinSubMux is IMHO the easiest to use. It can mux in either SVCD or CVD mode, and is freeware.
