  1. I have an Mpeg file that is 2,000,000Kb. I need to turn it into 800,000Kb. I recorded the movie from a VHS tape onto my computer and used Adobe Premiere 6.0 to turn it into a Mpeg file.

Does anyone know how I can make the 2gig Mpeg into only 800Mb or less?

    Thanks.

Only way is by reencoding to either a different format (DivX?) or to the same format, using a lower bitrate. How long is your recording, and what kind of MPEG is it in? What bitrate is your MPEG?

  3. I use 3000kb/s for bitrate, MPEG-2 format, it takes about 3 hours. Any less than that and the quality begins to digress. Not sure what to do.

2 hours, 2 Gb and 3Mbps is a fine compromise. The next one might be to get a DVDR. Just joking. However, I'm afraid you cannot do what you want with MPEG-2. It might be possible to make it 800MB with DivX, again with some compromise in quality.

If, however, you want to view it on a DVD player, you must split it on 3 CDs.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

3 hours on one CD with decent quality? I don't think so, not with any encoder of any flavor available today. 2 hours half decent DivX on 1 CD is the closest I've seen. And that was really half...
