I'm using TMPGenc to convert my TV avi caps (720 x 480) to DVD.
I notice an acceptable amount of blur during fast motion scenes, but after reading a few threads here, I'm wondering if I can eliminate this blurring by trying a different GOP structure?
I'm currently converting using high quality on 'motion search precision', (Highest quality was tried = no real benefit.) DC is set to 10 bits. (Thanks to Lordsmurf for his guide.)
I usually try to put two edited hour episodes on one DVD - about 90 minutes. So I've been using VBR and an avg of about 6800.
Would changing the default GOP structure help? Has anyone had significant successful results altering the GOP structure?

at that bitrate - better to stay with default GOP
use DC @ 9 at that lower bitrate
is the blurring on the source is the question though ?"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Sorry it took so long to respond. Life get's in the way.
No. The source is perfect. I'm curious why you suggest to change DC to 9. I'd be willing to read if the explanation is long.
Would it make a difference if I told you that I'm setting the max to 8K?
And I curious about you thinking the bitrate is low. How do you handle getting a 90 to 110 minute movie onto 1 DVD? Do you use higher bitrates and split it into two or do you use half d1? -
i didnt mean YOUR bit rate was low -- it is what it needs to be .... i meant at the bit rate your using --
DC is better lowered to 9 for avg bitrate below about 7000
there is a lenthy explaination for this --but it is true ..
can you post a screen cap of the type of blur your talking about? .. may be easier to pin it down than just stabbing at it with 10 different solutions .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Did the source blur? Is their any deinterlace involved? ... GOP can affect this, but I doubt it.
DC9, DC10 .. I'll just go with BJ_M on this one.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
