The camera was barely moving, and we weren't moving too fast either.

It was taken with a Sony Hdr Sr11 I think, and in 1080i. I put it in vegas, and rendered it as 'progressive' in one setting as opposed to upper or lower fields. No idea what any of them are but with the latter the motion is all wavy and f**cked up. For example, the hand here: http://i39.tinypic.com/2zs8xo8.jpg

The first image is alot better, but still looks unusual. Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? I see a bunch of other HD footage and it looks fine.

Your HD footage is upper field first. You should keep it that way. You will have less edge sharpness if you choose progressive. Interlaced looks more natural on a TV than on a monitor.

  3. On the deinterlace method, theres None, Interpolate Fields, or Blend Fields.
    Which one should I use?

What you showed us is blend deinterlace.

In Vegas you first set a project format (should be 1920x1080i top field first if an HDR-SR11).

The project deinterlace method comes into play for certain filters, sizing or special effects* not for pass through video or simple cuts.

If you get the project setting right you still need to set the MPeg2 encoder to 1920x1080i 29.97 and top field first.

Which output encoder did you use?

    * Translation to Vegas speak is "If I must deinterlace, how should I do it?".

PS: I'm using Vegas Pro 8, which version are you using?

  8. I'm using Vegas Pro 8 as well, and if I think I know what you mean, I'm using the Photo Jpeg encoder under the mov render format thingy.

But, so, no matter what it will look bad on the computer, yet good on a tv?

    Read my additions above.

I haven't used the "Photo Jpeg encoder under the mov render format thingy".

I'll try to find it. I'm using Vegas now so it might be tomorrow.
