  1. I am trying to get a .wav file out of this movie encoded with the AC3 Audio Codec. I've tried Nandub, Head3ache.. and every other program and have read a lot of the tutorials from sites like doom9.org . All I need to do is get a .wav file out of this AC3 Encoded video so I can make it into a VCD.

I used AVI2WAV and renamed the file to .ac3 and loaded it into head3ache.. after a while head3ache says that the ac3 stream is probably corrupt. Can anyone offer me some help?

  2. Those are the programs, but what do you actually try to do (settings) when you used them? VirtualDub should be able to do this:

    1) Load DiVX in VDub
    2) Under Audio choose 'direct steam copy'
    3) Under file chose 'save wav'

  3. Ok, that created a .wav file, but it cannot be heard in Winamp (probably because I need the Winamp AC3 codec to play it).

If I load the .avi file into TMPGEnc and load this (AC3-Encoded) .wav file as the audio source.. will it work properly?

You are doing everything exactly right, it's headac3he that is a problem. It failed for me as well, so I sometimes use a program call Azid instead. Azid works just like headac3he and is the base program on which headac3he works. Azid will bypass any problems that headac3he reports. I'm not sure if Azid is in the tools section, you may have to do a google search or try doom9.org
An alternative is to use Goldwave. Just load your Avi into Goldwave and then select save and it creates your wav file. Goldwave will create a wav from just about any Avi as long as the codecs are installed.

BTW you did install the AC3 codec first, right?

  5. Goldwave is the answer! Although it took a long time, it did everything good and the .wav is ready for TMPGEnc use. I'm surprised I've never heard of anyone else mentioning GoldWave.. it's a good idea.

    Thanks.

  7. I was having similar problems and asked for some help (which I got) in another thread. While I was checking on that thread, I saw this one and decided to try Goldwave.
    Problem solved.
    Goldwave officially kicks butt!
