I only use TMPEGEnc to convert avi. movies to VCD's but the frames is too small (352x288) thefore you can see all the dots when i watch it on our big TV at home. Is there another program or way to create a VCD that has widescreen resolutions. Becasue all the avi movies have are wdiescreen DVD rips.
Thanks

it also depends on what options you select to encode at, what is your usual encoding time for a 1 hour 30 film

VCD is 352x288 (for PAL) no way to change that it is a set standard. You can keep it widescreen though by selecting maintain aspect ratio in the settings. Black bars will be placed at the top and bottom which when played on a widescreen TV you will not see. (well you may still see a bit of the black bars depending on the AR of the movie.)

Unfortunately, that is the standard resolution for pal VCD. Any higher resolution may or may not play on your DVD machine. You can move up to pal CVD (352x576) or pal SVCD (480x576), these are created as mpeg2's and burned as SVCD's, of course these would only work if your player supports SVCD.Originally Posted by luckyducky"Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa

what i meant was, do you just go for the quickest encode time, if so then thats the prob, i go for the slowest and best quality i.e. my average encode for a 1.5 hour avi-mpg is around 8 hours, and get acxe results, 95% dvd video quality
i can send a sample if you want, if you got msn, then add me -
When you say you want to make a widescreen VCD do you mean you want to make an anamorphic 16x9 widescreen VCD? If so then yes that is possible although to the best of my knowledge no stand alone DVD player will resize the image for correct playback on a 4:3 TV. However if you have a true 16x9 TV or even a 4:3 TV that has a 16x9 "compression" mode then it will work (i.e., look normal). It just won't look normal on a standard 4:3 TVOriginally Posted by luckyducky
