Hello. I read somewhere that people were getting 6x or 8x read speeds using the DRU500A and the latest firmware upgrade. But using DVD Decrypter i can only get my dvd's to read at 2x. Does anyone know a fix to this so i can make my read speeds faster? If so could you please detail how i would go about changing my settings? Thanks!

  2. It may be doing that but perhaps only on two layer DVD's. Try a single layer DVD and see what the read is. DVD drives are so cheap these days I just bought one for ripping only and use my Sony for burning only..

I've tried both a dual-layer dvd and a dvd that i burned myself and both only rip at 2x. Also about the getting another dvd-drive to just read the disks. i read somewhere that there was a compatiblity issue with having more than 1 dvd drive hooked up when the dru500a is present. is this true? will i have compatibilty problems if i hook another dvd player up to my computer? sorry for all the questions but some help on this would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

  4. I'm not having any compatibility issues and I have three drives on this computer.

Try an original DVD single layer disc not one you burned. I remember reading where the read was slower on dual layer and DVD+/- media. I use SmartRipper and see speeds of 8 to 14x for single layer DVDs and 4 to 8x on dual layer DVDs. If I try to rip from the Sony my speed is also 2x but I'm not sure if I was using a single or dual layer DVD when I tried that.

  5. I'm pretty sure the DRU500a can only read data dvd at 4x and video at 2x...so it's REALLY damn slow to rip a video dvd using this drive. I'd *HIGHLY* recommend getting a 16x DVD-ROM drive to do this as u will easily save about 10-15 mins/rip for only like $30 or so. (Plus u could always do disc to disc if ur computer is fast enuff and ur dma settings are cherry once u have that dvdr of the dvd video). THe only real downside is losing one of ur IDE connections of ur precious 4 (which basically leaves only *one* since u have ur hdd, the dvd burner and the dvd-rom)
