  1. I am struggling how to play back from Win XP laptop through a belkin firwire card / cable to a philips 890 recorder.

In theory, if I have avi files, I thought I would be able to play them to the 890 as if it were a DV camcorder.

I have tries 2 software options. Firstly I tried the ulead videostudio 6 software.

However, when I imported an avi file (352x288) into te software from hard disk and tried to export via the DV recording option it gave an error - saying that only DV codec AVI files are supported.

My limited understanding is that this means that you can only play back files that were ceated on a digital camcorder and captured on the PC ???

I also have MGI Videowave III and it only lets me export to full screen (does not recognise the 890 as a DV recorder to bring up the DV export playback option)

There must be a way of export playing through firewire in DV format. Maybe I have to change the format of the avi or mpeg files to a DV format. How do I do this ?

  2. If I'm not mistaken, the 890 only has an i.Link/FireWire out.

  3. The 890 has DV firewire IN. I have recorded / backed up recordings to DVD+R and DVD+RW from my Panasonic DV camcorder using Belin 4-pin-4-pin firewire connection only. By the way, DVD quality from DV via digital input is excellent.

  5. How do you get videos off a PC into the 890, via the i-link ?

Do you need any software to do it?
