  1. Any ideas? I only have a 2x burner, does this matter? Should i try burning it at 1x? Would it make any difference if i converted the mpg to .bin?

I have a Sony DVD/VCD player and im using Sony CD-RW media.

I'm still new at this and any help would be appreaciated.

    Thanks

If your VCD feed is corrupted (sometimes you can see colour variations on the screen) your DVD Player can suddenly halt.
To make sure that this doesn't happen during the burning of your VCD I would suggest, that you switch off (end) all background programs running on your PC. Press Ctrl-Alt- Delete and see what is still running). Record in your case at 1x and don't even touch the mouse or keyboard during the process (some burners are so sensitive, it's actually better not to breath either!! ). See if this helps you somewhat.

  4. Ok i burned it at 1x and it got past 18mins, YAY! i thought but when it got to 30mins all of a sudden the movie paused for a second and when it started playing again the audio was about a half a second faster then the video. It played like this until about 50mins into the movie until it eventually just stopped.

The movie was originally in asf format. I extracted the audio using vdub and then i encoded the vcd with tmpgen (standard NTSC VCD template), but when i was encoding i was also browsing the web, listening to mp3's etc.. Could this be the problem? I didn't think that was it because even when i play the vcd on my computer it playes fine, (.mpg file and burnt disc) I'm using Nero 5.5.2.4.

Should I reencode the VCD and just leave my computer alone? Should I use NTI-CD MAKER that came with my CD-RW instead of nero? ARGH! this is driving me crazy =\

edited to say: i also tried demux remux and i got an error at the end of remux (stack overflow), i burned the file anyway and after that the movie wouldnt play at all.

You mentioned now that the second VCD played fine on your pc - no unsync anymore? If the same VCD suddenly starts becoming unsync in your DVD Player - then I think its quite obvious what is wrong. The chip inside just can't handle VCD's as well as other DVD Players can.

  6. Yes but i can play commercially pressed VCD's just fine, and i doubt its my media because if it wasnt compatible wouldn't it just not work at all?

I'm going to try NTI-CD MAKER and see if that makes any difference. I think the problem is with nero because no two discs that i burn are alike. Quality differs, some play longer then others, some play all the way through but the audio gets out of sync etc..

Thanks for the help guys, I'll report back if i get it.

  7. Hi

In my experience i have found that different media can make a difference. That is i have tried one brand of media and it did play, but had problems with skipping and pausing.
I tried some other brand of media and it worked fine.

Also i have found that different burning programs have given me varied results as well.
